Only Child (In-Progress) explores the inner reflections of existing as an only child in the context of the evolution of family structure driven by social, economic and technological changes.
The current portfolio reflects nine photographs, taken in the one-room schoolhouse my grandmother attended in Nova Scotia, Canada. Here, I, the sole resulting grandchild, spent two weeks con-templating my final position in our family’s cycle of life - the anticipated loss, my future sole existence, and responsibility.
With family size shifting and communities changing, I am interested in exploring this emerging population; revealing the internal experience, examining its collective existence and the surfacing new family fabrics.
This research is in process and will be translated through a series of multi-media artworks.
